Four ways off the tarmac

There's no single right answer, only the right one for your trip.

There are four ways to leave Split Airport: a metered taxi from the rank, a ride-hailing app (Uber or Bolt), a shared shuttle bus, or a pre-booked private transfer. The apps are usually the cheapest option outside July and August but surge in peak season, and at Split Airport they pick up from a point outside the terminal complex that's only shown to you after you've booked. A pre-booked private transfer costs more, and the price is fixed and the driver waits inside arrivals.

Uber at Split Airport

It works. The pickup point is the catch.

Uber operates at Split Airport, but the pickup point isn't shown until after you've confirmed the ride, and it usually sits on the main road outside the terminal complex rather than at the arrivals doors. You'll be tracking your driver on airport wifi while walking to find them with your bags. Prices also surge through July and August, sometimes sharply on a late flight.

Bolt at Split Airport

Often the cheaper of the two apps.

Bolt runs in Split, Zadar and Dubrovnik, and at the airport it's frequently the lower-priced option for the same route as Uber. The catch is the same one: the pickup point sits outside the terminal complex and isn't shown until after you book, and the price moves with demand once summer arrives.

The airport taxi rank

Metered, and worth a glance before you get in.

Licensed taxis at the rank outside arrivals are legally required to run the meter, and the tariff card has to be displayed inside the vehicle — check it before you close the door. Meter fares into town are typically the highest of the non-booked options and vary with traffic and the exact address. Expect a queue on a busy July or August afternoon.

The shared shuttle bus

The cheapest option, and it only goes to one place.

The airport shuttle is the cheapest way into town, timed to flights and running to Split's main bus station. It's a solid choice if you're travelling solo and light. It's a harder sell with a family, a stroller or a group of five — you'll still need a taxi or a walk on from the bus station to your actual door.

Pre-booked private transfer

Costs more. You know the number and the driver first.

A pre-booked private transfer — Plejo included — costs more than an app on an average day. What you get instead is a fixed price agreed by WhatsApp before you fly, a driver waiting inside arrivals with your name, and a flight that's actually tracked.

  • Fixed price agreed before you fly — it doesn't move afterward
  • 30 minutes of free waiting, timed from actual landing
  • Three or four drivers, all from Trogir — you'll know which one before you land
Which to pick

It depends what you're carrying, and when you land.

Solo, light luggage

The shuttle bus or an app is the cheapest, simplest option — book it and go.

Couple, off-season, city centre

Uber or Bolt work well outside July and August, when surge pricing isn't in play.

Family, a group, or an odd hour

Five or more people, a flight after 23:00 or before 06:00, or a run to Trogir, Seget, Kaštela or a marina — that's where a fixed price and a driver inside arrivals earns its keep.

Questions, answered

Split Airport transport, straight answers.

Is Uber cheaper than a taxi in Split?

Usually, outside July and August. In peak season Uber can surge past a metered taxi fare, especially late in the evening or after a delayed flight.

Where does Uber pick up at Split Airport?

At a point on the main road outside the terminal complex, not at the arrivals doors. The exact spot only appears in the app after you confirm the ride.

Does Bolt work at Split Airport?

Yes. Bolt operates at SPU and is often the cheaper of the two apps for the same route, with the same outside-the-terminal pickup point as Uber.

Do Croatian taxis have to use the meter?

Yes. Licensed taxis at the rank are required to run the meter, and the tariff card must be displayed inside the vehicle — worth a glance before you get in.

Is a private transfer worth it for two people?

Often not, off-season — an app is usually cheaper for two with light luggage. It starts to make sense with an early or late flight, more bags than seats, or a destination past the city centre, like Trogir or a marina.

The Plejo Promise

Seven things we promise on every transfer.

  • We meet you inside arrivals — with your name on a sign, not on a road outside the terminal.
  • We track your flight — land late and we're still there.
  • 30 minutes of free waiting, included, timed from when you actually land.
  • A fixed price on WhatsApp within 10 minutes (08:00–20:00 CET, every day). Once agreed it doesn't move — tolls, luggage and fees included, no summer surge.
  • You'll know your driver — name, photo, vehicle and plate, sent the day before.
  • Card or cash, both accepted in the vehicle.
  • Free cancellation up to 12 hours before pickup.
